Reds’ Billy Hamilton Uses Hesitation Move to Avoid Tag, Arrive at First on Bunt

“And that’s an easy play…oh, he missed him!”

The play-by-play announcer says it all, as Cincinnati’s Billy Hamilton pulled off one of the most elusive moves of the season to avoid a tag from Pittsburgh’s Gaby Sanchez and get on first.

With what appeared to be an easy out coming, Hamilton did a full hesitation move to avoid the tag and dive for first base.

Report: Derek Jeter Is a Partial Owner of High-Tech Men’s Underwear Company

It lifts. It cradles. It cools.

It’s Derek Jeter’s secret underwear brand, and it’s here to revolutionize the groin comfort game. Yes, this is real.

Mara Siegler of the New York Post reports that Jeter is now a partial owner of Frigo RevolutionWear, a company specializing in pricy, artisanal men’s underwear.

Known colloquially as “Tempur-Pedic banana hammocks,” Frigo underwear features a “soft lock adjustment system” with a “patented pouch” nicknamed the “Frigo Zone.” Take a moment and let that sentence digest.

According to Frigo CEO Mathias Ingvarsson, the underwear segregates the curds from the whey and allows for a more agreeable situation in the male southern hemisphere.

“It separates your genitals from the rest of your body … it lifts a little bit so [men] feel the comfort,” Ingvarsson says.

Siegler reports that sources say Jeter’s camp has been trying to keep his involvement in the company a quiet matter.

“His team is concerned he’ll turn into the next Jim Palmer,” said one of Siegler’s anonymous sources.

Sielger also says Jeter refuses to do any ads for the company. His problem? It would be too “embarrassing.”

I don’t see the embarrassment in Jeter modeling NASA-caliber underwear. It’s 2014. Athletes are hawking adult diapers and calf-sculpting moon boots. Prince Fielder is naked on the cover of our magazines.

If we can handle these things, we can deal with Jeter: underwear model edition. Pop, soft lock and drop it, Jeets. Let the men of the world know about the comfort and support they’ve been missing. It’s time to enter the Frigo Zone.

Highway to the Frigo Zone.

Yasiel Puig Gives a Finger Wag After an out Call Is Overturned

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig channeled his inner Dikembe Mutombo after what he thought would be an incredible out at second was overturned.

After Detroit’s Torii Hunter was called out at second after a laser from Puig from right field, an official review overturned the call.

Puig was upset about the overturn and jokingly gave Hunter a finger-wagging warning that he has his number even though he didn’t get him this time.

San Diego Graffiti Artists Honor the Late Tony Gwynn with a Mural

A group of San Diego graffiti artists are using their talents to honor a local legend.

Tony Gwynn played his entire 20-year career with the San Diego Padres, and he is affectionately known as “Mr. Padre.” He passed away last month at the age of 54 after a battle with cancer.

Now, the Wildstyle Technicians are putting together a mural of the late Gwynn on the wall of a boxing gym, with permission from the owner, on 16th and J streets.

Gwynn may have been a baseball player, but he influenced everyone, regardless of profession.

“The way he mastered his craft is what we try to do as graffiti artists, so when he passed, immediately in our minds we wanted to do a tribute mural,” said Justice Romero, via ABC 10 News’ Kandiss Crone.

Mr. Padre may be gone, but he will not be forgotten. The Wildstyle Technicians want to make sure that generations to come know about the Hall of Fame outfielder, even if they never saw him play.

Saratoga Sake, who is also battling the disease, wanted to paint the mural to keep Gwynn’s legacy going strong for years to come. Sake, via Crone, spoke about the project:

He’s larger than life. Hopefully it will bring smiles to people’s faces ’cause Tony Gwynn had a huge great smile.

For the younger generation that doesn’t really know much about Tony Gwynn, hopefully they’ll ask, ‘Who is that?’

A mural is the perfect way for these artists to honor Gwynn.

Derek Jeter Sets Up Easy Double Play by Faking Out Jason Kipnis at Second Base

Derek Jeter is making sure he uses up all of his tricks before he hangs up his glove.

On Monday night, the New York Yankees shortstop was able to set up an easy double play in the eighth inning of a two-run game with a smooth fake.

With the Cleveland Indians’ Jason Kipnis running on the pitch, he had no idea where Asdrubal Cabrera hit the ball. Jeter realized that and pretended to catch the ball at second base to fake the runner out. Cabrera had hit a pop-up in foul territory, though, so with Kipnis fooled, Yankees third baseman Zelous Wheeler could easily throw to first for the double play.

Cleveland had already scored one run in the inning, so it was a big play to get out of the frame with the tying run at the plate and the heart of the Indians order due up. The Yankees went on to win, 5-3.

Cardinals Ball Boy Jumps into Stands to Avoid Foul Ball

During Saturday afternoon’s game between the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals, one ball boy had to get creative to avoid being hit.

In the bottom of the first inning, Matt Holliday hit a line-drive foul ball to right field. The ball was headed right towards one of the ball boys, but he quickly hopped out of the way and stumbled into the stands.

Angels’ Mike Trout Crushes Walk-off Home Run vs. Astros

Los Angeles Angels phenom Mike Trout continues to have a terrific season, and he made another huge play for his team Friday night.

In the bottom of the ninth inning against the Houston Astros, Trout swung at a ball well below the belt on an 0-2 count. The 22-year-old got all of the ball, however, and ended up hitting the walk-off home run to give his team the win.

In 81 games, Trout already has 20 home runs and 63 RBI, as he’s having yet another MVP-caliber season.

We Remember: Rick Monday Saves American Flag from Being Burned by Protesters

Although this great save didn’t happen July 4, today is a great day to look back at one of the most patriotic acts to happen on the diamond in Major League Baseball history.

On April 25, 1976, which was the year of the United States’ bicentennial, the Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium. In the middle of the fourth inning, two people ran onto the field. They didn’t do it to interact with the players; they did it to protest.

The two fans had placed an American flag on the ground with the intention of burning it, but luckily, Cubs outfielder Rick Monday was there to save the day.

A few years ago, Monday talked to MLB.com’s Ben Platt about what was going through his head at the time.

David Ortiz Starts Walking to First Before Final Ball Hits Catcher’s Glove

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz knows his way around the plate. So well, in fact, that he doesn’t even need to hear the ball hit the mitt before he takes his free pass.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Neil Ramirez was just finishing his windup when Big Papi decided he was ready to stroll to first on a 3-0 count.
