Roy Halladay No-Hitter: Joins Don Larsen As Second to Throw Playoff No-Hitter

Roy Halladay made it look easy tonight, beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-0 as he tossed the second no-hitter in Major League Baseball Playoff history in the first playoff game of his career.

Halladay retired Brandon Phillips on a groundout to the catcher to close the game and joined Don Larsen of the Yankees as the only other pitcher to get a no-no in playoff history.  Larsen pitched a perfect game against the Dodgers in 1956.

The lone blemish on Halladay’s stat line was a fifth-inning walk to Jay Bruce.

Soon after that, Halladay locked down and retired the next 13 batters.

“This is what you come here for,” said Halladay during an on-field postgame interview.  “It’s a dream come true!”

Halladay threw 104 pitches—79 of them for strikes—and struck out eight batters in the game as the Phillies took a 1-0 lead over the Reds in the National League Division Series.
