The Boston Red Sox weren’t the only ones getting new rings on Friday.
Back in 2011, two Red Sox fans—Cody Anderson and Shannon Armitage—met online. Anderson and Armitage hit it off, which led to a great story. The two fans got married at Fenway Park on April 4, 2014, which is the same day that the team received their 2013 World Series rings.
It seems like an unbelievable story, but it all started with a simple tweet by the Red Sox:
Anderson saw that tweet and decided to reach out to Armitage less than a week later:
Once he tweeted at her, their relationship began to develop. They went from tweeting to texting before finally meeting in person. Anderson lived in Illinois and Armitage lived in Massachusetts. The distance didn’t stop them from falling in love, however. Armitage wound up moving to Illinois after the two began dating.
That’d be a cool enough story, but there is even more to it thanks to the Red Sox. Not only did the team connect them on Twitter, but Anderson’s late father was a die-hard Red Sox fan. All of that led to an obvious idea: a Fenway Park wedding.
Anderson and Armitage exchanged vows on Friday before Boston’s home opener. Given that the two met on Twitter, it was only fitting that the couple live-tweeted their morning:

With the Red Sox celebrating their 2013 World Series championship, it only seemed fitting that the newlyweds got a picture with the iconic bullpen cop from last season’s playoff run:
