Before I get started, I wanted to express my condolences to the Harwell family, to Tigers fans, and to baseball fans in general.

We lost a legend with the passing of Hall of Famer Ernie Harwell.

Thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the game.

Here’s a look at some unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Livan Hernandez, Washington Nationals

The WHIP wasn’t pretty (five hits and five walks in 5.1 IP), but Livan allowed just one earned run to improve to 4-1 with a 0.97 ERA.

Jeremy Hermida, Boston Red Sox

Hermida went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI to raise his average to .255.

Marco Scutaro, Boston Red Sox

Scutaro went 3-for-5 with a run. He’s now hitting .290.

Ervin Santana, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The Angels wasted a solid effort from Santana. He gave up one run with seven Ks in seven innings to lower his ERA to 4.02.

Nick Blackburn, Minnesota Twins

The Twins are rolling with a short bullpen, so Blackburn’s complete game was money. He gave up three runs to improve to 2-1 with a 5.79 ERA.

Mike Aviles, Kansas City Royals

Aviles went 3-for-5 with a HR. He’s getting his feet wet after returning from injury. He’ll have to share with Yuniesky Betancourt, so don’t get too excited.

Luke Hochevar, Kansas City Royals

Luke gave up one unearned run on three hits in six innings to improve to 3-1 with a 5.03 record. It’s a crime he has three more wins than Zack Greinke.

Aaron Rowand, San Francisco Giants

Rowand went 3-for-5 with a HR and three RBI. He’s hitting .327.

Ryan Sweeney, Oakland A’s

Sweeney went 3-for-4 with a HR and five RBI. He’s hitting .303 with 16 RBI.

Gregg Zaun, Milwaukee Brewers

Zaun went 3-for-4 with two runs, a HR, and two RBI. He’s hitting .257 with 10 RBI.
