Here’s a look at some unheralded players who played well yesterday.

 

Marlon Byrd, Chicago Cubs

Byrd is heating up again. He went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI. He has four multi-hit games in a row, hitting .588 over that span. On the year he’s hitting .321 with 33 runs, seven HRs, and 31 RBI.

 

Carlos Silva, Chicago Cubs

Silva continues to be one of the league’s biggest surprises after giving up one run on four hits with five Ks over seven innings to improve to 8-0 with a 2.93 ERA.

 

Wade LeBlanc, San Diego Padres

LeBlanc blanked the Phillies for seven innings, holding them to four hits, as he improved to 3-4 with a 3.21 ERA.

 

Marco Scutaro, Boston Red Sox

Scutaro continued to raise his average, going 3-for-4 with two runs. He’s now hitting .285.

 

Daisuke Matsuzaka, Boston Red Sox (pictured)

Dice-K threw eight scoreless innings, allowing four hits with five Ks, as he improved to 5-2 with a 4.59 ERA.

 

Juan Uribe, San Francisco Giants

Uribe went 2-for-5 with four RBI. He’s hitting .280 with 37 RBI.

 

Jason Hammel, Colorado Rockies

Hammel threw 7.1 scoreless innings to improve to 3-3 with a 5.23 ERA.

 

Blake DeWitt, Los Angeles Dodgers

DeWitt went 2-for-3 with two runs, a HR, and five RBI. He’s hitting .281 with 20 RBI.
