Jeter in another uniform could be considered adultery, it just wouldn’t look right.
A day after the New York Yankees re-signed Mariano Rivera to a two-year deal, the Yankees now are ready to reach a deal with the face of the franchise.
The Yankees and Jeter have been stuck in contract discussions and reportedly the number is around $15 million a year. Jeter’s agent is upset with the number and feels that “Mr. Yankee” should be worth more.
The Yankees told Jeter if he didn’t like the numbers being offered to test the free-agent market and see what’s out there.
What did Jeter find?
Not many teams are willing to spend more than $15 million a year on an aging shortstop who is coming off the worst offensive season of his career, hitting .270 with 10 home runs and 67 RBI.
Instead, the face of the Yankees will be back with a three-year contract worth $15 to $17 million, with a fourth year option.
Despite his poor offensive numbers from last year, Jeter is still one of the best players of his era and without any mention of steroids he still is the role model we all wanted.
