Team Needs 2014: Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins are a halfway decent team in 2014. After three straight 90-loss seasons, that’ll do nicely for progress.

But who knows? Maybe halfway decent isn’t Minnesota’s ceiling in 2014. Perhaps the Twins can be better than that. Perhaps they can even be good enough to make some noise in an AL Central division that’s widely viewed as the playground of the Detroit Tigers.

Perhaps indeed. But the Twins are going to need a few things. What they have now doesn’t look like enough.

MLB Lead Writer Zachary D. Rymer is here with some thoughts on that. In his mind, the Twins’ list of needs starts with more power from their most expensive player, continues with more production from their outfield and ends with their perpetually struggling starting rotation.

MLB Teams That Will Be Contenders in 2014

The 2013 Major League Baseball regular season is over and, alas, some teams just didn’t prove to be good enough to make it to October.

Some of them, however, are going to get there in 2014.

That’s the cue for B/R Pop Culture Lead Writer Gabe Zaldivar and MLB Lead Writer Zachary D. Rymer to put their predicting hats on.

Without giving too much away, Gabe likes what he sees in the Beltways. That one Baltimore club has some good talent in place on the offensive side of the ball and some young talent waiting to contribute on the pitching side. The team in Washington, meanwhile, was plenty talented this season and ought to be a threat in 2014.

As for Zachary, he likes that one team in the desert that has that one amazing first baseman. He also likes a certain team in Chicago to pull off a Cleveland Indians-like turnaround.

MLB Knuckleheads of the Week

You never know what you’re going to see when you turn up at a Major League Baseball game. Sometimes, what you see can amaze you.

Other times, what you see will leave you shaking your head. For all the wonders baseball can produce, it also produces its share of knuckleheadery.

And when it does, B/R Pop Culture lead writer Gabe Zaldivar and MLB lead writer Zachary D. Rymer are on the case.

For this week’s “MLB Knuckleheads of the Week” segment, Gabe and Zach are focused entirely on action that took place on the field within the last week. There was some bad bunting going on in Cincinnati during last week’s Cardinals-Reds series, and the weekend’s action saw not one, but two veteran players get faked out at horribly inopportune times.

Leave your comments, questions and angry ramblings below if you have any. You’re also welcome to follow Gabe and Zach on Twitter.
