The poor situation the Pirates are in easily lends the notion that its General Manager and manager would be on the heat seat for next season. In a move that makes no sense to many, or actually makes perfect sense for the Pirates especially when you see similar bewildering roster moves over the years, Pittsburgh actually gave the two contract extensions.

Facebook is such a focal point of today’s social networking age and it is very obvious that angry fans of teams would use it as a medium to express their discontent. It was just a matter of time before even employees of these teams made their opinions known to thousands.

One such employee of the Pirates, Andrew Kurutz, made his thoughts public. In a message addressed to team president Frank Coonelly, general manager Neal Huntington, and finally manager John Russell, the 24-year-old Kurutz said, “Coonelly extended the contracts of Russell and Huntington through the 2011 season. That means a 19-straight losing streak. Way to go Pirates.”

Andrew can now change his facebook status to “not employed by the Pirates anymore, way to go Pirates.”

One of a rotation of 18 men who take turns in the pierogies race after the fifth inning at PNC Park, Kurutz was fired after posting his feelings on his home team.

Now, was this even needed? He only made about $100 a month and wore a foam costume while running around for the amusement of the your fans.

Also, I am very curious as to how this information brought to the attention of the Pittsburgh front office. Is a there a secret person keeping an eye on message boards and social networking sites to see if anyone talks bad about them? Very weird I suppose.
