MLB Preview 2011: Looking at Adam Jones and the Baltimore Orioles on Paper

Is this the year that Baltimore finally breaks out?

They have arguably one of the more dangerous lineups in the American League, but the pitching is young and unproven.  If the O’s can get some solid production from the staff, it’s a possibility that Baltimore can eclipse the .500 mark for the first time in 13 years.

Buck Showalter was brought in to become the new manager in August and did a remarkable job.  The O’s went 34-23 under Showalter during August and September.

MLB Preview 2011: Looking at Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants on Paper

World Champions!

It only took the Giants 66 years to climb back to the top of the mountain, and it was the first World Series title in San Francisco.

And to those who say it was a fluke, it wasn’t.  In the year of the pitcher, the Giants proved that they had the best pitching staff in baseball.

Bruce Bochy also proved that he’s one of the best managers in the game.  And lastly, while the lineup wasn’t the best, they proved that they could come up with the timely hitting needed to win ball games.

Now the question is, can they repeat?

MLB Preview 2011: Looking at Mat Latos and the San Diego Padres on Paper

The San Diego Padres led the NL West for 148 days.  A 10-game losing streak near the end of the season bunched the entire division together.  Heading into the final weekend, the Padres needed a three-game sweep against the Giants to force a one-game playoff.  They won the first two, but dropped the third game.

It was a collapse from a team that preseason was supposed to be one of the worst in baseball.

In the offseason, the club took another blow when Adrian Gonzalez was traded to Boston.

In the friendly confines of Petco Park, the Padres find success with effective pitching from the starters and bullpen.  It’s going to be up to the offense to keep San Diego in ballgames.

MLB Preview 2011: Looking at Justin Upton and the Arizona Diamondbacks

Before the start of last season, the Diamondbacks were a trendy pick to make some noise in the NL West.  Then Brandon Webb’s shoulder suffered a set-back and the season went down the toilet.

The bullpen was atrocious, the third worst in Major League history.  The organization decided to part with strikeout king Mark Reynolds to acquire bullpen help from Baltimore.

Kirk Gibson got the managerial job after a successful stint as the interim manager last year.  Arizona posted a winning record in August.  We’ll see if that success can translate into this season.
