The Fall Classic is mere days away. After months of speculation, hitting streaks, controversial calls and double plays, the MLB champion will finally be crowned.

The Detroit Tigers were quite eager to get to the final series. They wasted no time in the ALCS, sweeping the Yankees and claiming their spot atop the AL mountain behind solid pitching and timely hitting.

The Tigers’ opponent has yet to be determined. The NL representative will either be the San Francisco Giants or the St. Louis Cardinals, who have each won a World Series in the past two years. 

The NL has taken four of the last six championships. Can the Tigers push the AL back over the hump?

It’s pretty difficult to tell considering the opponent hasn’t even been clarified. However, we do know when the contestants will be battling it out.

All games will be televised by Fox, so there aren’t any excuses for missing the action.

I suppose work would be acceptable. Or a hospital visit. Maybe even volunteering at your local Girls & Boys club. I’m getting off topic here, the point is that there aren’t any games on cable.

Gambling Odds

The Tigers are already considered the favorite despite their lack of an opponent. Bovada.lv has listed the Tigers as 2/3 favorites. The site also lists the St. Louis Cardinals at 13/10 and has the San Francisco Giants as a long shot at 15/1.

Storyline: Will Detroit’s Pitching Staff Continue Its Dominance?

The Tigers bats were supposed to be the story of the season for Detroit, but that hasn’t been the case. 

Against the Yankees, Justin Verlander led a much-maligned (at least during the regular season) rotation in a complete domination of the Yankees batting order. Aside from a Jose Valverde blip in the ninth inning of Game 1, New York was held to two runs over four games.

If Detroit continues to pitch that well, neither NL contender will make it a series against the Tigers. Can they keep it up?
