Tampa Bay Rays catcher Rene Rivera will have a hard time living this slide down.

With Rivera on first in the top of the seventh inning of Monday night’s game, the Rays’ Brandon Guyer hit a chopper to Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols. Pujols stepped on first to get one out and then fired to second to try to get a double play.

Well, the ball easily beat the runner to the bag—because the runner never actually made it to second. Rivera’s slide came up embarrassingly short, causing Angels shortstop Erick Aybar to wait for him to come close enough to be tagged.

Rivera had no problem laughing at himself once the play was over. It’s good that he has a sense of humor because he is going to be hearing it from his teammates.
