As Major League Baseball looks to protect its pitchers from comebackers, New York Mets pitcher Alex Torres is doing his part to promote safety.

Last season, Torres—then with the San Diego Padres—wore a protective hat that made him look very odd on the field. 

Now, after some tweaks, Torres will be wearing an updated version of the protective cap:

Give Torres credit. Not every pitcher would be willing to wear these protective hats—for various reasons. However, Torres is willing to put safety above everything else.
