Upton’s Status Day-to-Day After Suffering Quad Injury

Saturday, April 18

Dennis Lin of U-T San Diego provided an update on Upton’s status after the game:

Upton has been a big part of San Diego’s solid 7-5 start to the season. The slugger, who was traded to the team in the offseason from the Atlanta Braves, is hitting .326 with three home runs and eight RBI this season.

His addition, along with that of Matt Kemp and Wil Myers this offseason, has rejuvenated the Padres offense and made the team a legitimate playoff contender this season. While there were some concerns that the spacious confines of Petco Park might mitigate some of Upton’s power, he’s certainly gotten off to a strong start.

Certainly, the Padres will be hoping that Upton can return to action quickly. The team has built up solid momentum this season thus far, but Upton’s injury could potentially stall San Diego’s strong start if he is sidelined for a significant amount of time.
