Everyone knows the Miami Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton has tremendous power at the plate. What doesn’t get talked about is the right fielder’s underrated defense.

In the bottom of the second inning of Monday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Stanton robbed Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison of an extra-base hit and an RBI with a great leaping grab. If Stanton doesn’t make the catch, Pittsburgh takes a 4-1 lead and the speedy Harrison may end up on third.

Of course, Stanton had to follow that great play with some offense when he stepped to the plate in the following inning. The Marlins star muscled an opposite-field homer in the top of the third:

Thanks to Stanton, the Marlins trailed just 3-2 through three innings.
