Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Russ Ohlendorf, Pittsburgh Pirates

Ohlendorf did his part. He gave up two runs in seven innings with five strikeouts. The two solo shots by Lance Berkman were enough to do him in as Roy Oswalt threw a one-hit shutout. Ohlendorf is just 1-7, but sports a solid 4.22 ERA. He has allowed just two runs in his last three starts (20 innings).

Andres Torres & Freddy Sanchez

Torres went 2-for-6 with three runs (45) and a HR (6) to raise his average to .280. He has scored at least one run in his past seven games. Sanchez went 3-for-5 with two runs (24) and two RBIs (26) to raise his average to .294. He has a hit in six straight games.

Jason Giambi, Colorado Rockies

Giambi went 4-for-4 with a run (11) and two RBI (18) to raise his average to .265. He’s not much of a fantasy option in my opinion.

Brett Cecil, Toronto Blue Jays

Cecil gave up a run on four hits in seven innings to improve to 8-5 with a 3.97 ERA. He’s given up two runs in his last two starts (13 innings).

Wade Davis, Tampa Bay Rays

Davis gave up two runs on four hits in seven innings to improve to 6-9 with a 4.69 ERA.

Randy Wells, Chicago Cubs

Wells pitched a solid game despite taking the loss. He gave up three runs in seven innings with seven Ks. He sits at 4-7 with a 4.61 ERA. He’s 1-1 in his last three starts with a 2.18 ERA.

Jason Vargas, Seattle Mariners

Vargas earned a no-decision despite giving up a run in seven innings. He’s 6-4 with a 3.09 ERA.

Gerardo Parra, Arizona Diamondbacks

Parra went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI to raise his average to .274. He’s probably only useful in deeper fantasy leagues.
