Nothing good can come from fan interference at Wrigley Field—except this picture.
In the bottom of the second inning of Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs pitcher Jason Hammel popped the ball up in foul territory down the first-base line. It looked like Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was going to be able to make the catch for the third out of the inning.
However, a fan sitting in the first row—who was feeding his baby—was able to lean across the wall and make the catch.
The first-base umpire initially ruled that it was just a foul ball, but after Dodgers manager Don Mattingly came out to discuss the play with the umps, the play was given a seond look. After a quick review, it was ruled fan interference and Hammel was out.
It was a great job by the photographer to snap a picture at the perfect moment.
