Gordon Suffers Dislocated Thumb vs. Reds

Saturday, July 11

MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro reported Gordon dislocated his thumb in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game when the speedster slid head-first to reach on an infield single. It was the third hit for Gordon in four at-bats as he galvanized Miami into an offensive explosion at Marlins Park.

Gordon is slated to start in the All-Star Game this Tuesday, but Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel noted the 27-year-old may have to pull out of the exhibition game:

Gordon has just four fielding errors all year and a .333 average atop the Marlins’ batting order, so there’s nothing Miami can really do to make up for his absence. Given how important the left thumb is to Gordon’s glove hand, he may see extended time on the disabled list.

The 2015 campaign has already been a tough one for the Marlins. Their 14-28 road record has been a big issue, along with sporting an offense that ranked 26th in baseball in runs scored before Saturday’s contest.

Another prospective All-Star starter in Giancarlo Stanton went on the disabled list on June 27 due to a left wrist fracture. Miami is bound to have a tough go at it until Gordon and Stanton are fully healthy.
