Gonzalez Leaves Game with Knee Soreness

Friday, March 27

According to Nick Groke of The Denver Post, Gonzalez left the Colorado Rockies’ spring training game late Friday night with soreness in his left knee:

With one out in the third inning, Gonzalez caught a Will Middlebrooks fly ball, then relayed a throw back to the infield with runners on first and second.

That’s when Gonzalez said he felt soreness in his knee, the team said. He was taken out as a precaution and replaced in right field by Tim Wheeler.

The news is particularly concerning since the veteran outfielder had season-ending surgery on his left patella tendon last August. Gonzalez has missed a total of 144 games over the past two years.

Few expect the Rockies to be serious contenders in the National League West, and they certainly won’t be if Gonzalez’s knee troubles persist.
