Baltimore Orioles reliever Brian Matusz learned nothing from Will Smith. Only a few days after the Milwaukee Brewers lefty got the boot for having a foreign substance on his right arm, umpires ejected Matusz on Saturday night after they discovered an illegal material on his arm, per NBC Sports’ Bill Baer.

The ejection came with the Orioles in a 0-0 tie with the Miami Marlins in the bottom of the 12th inning. According to Fox Sports’ Joe Davis, Marlins manager Dan Jennings asked that the umpire crew inspect Matusz’s arm. The veteran left-hander made it 0.2 innings before the ejection.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun added a few details about Matusz’s ejection:

Smith’s incident earned him an eight-game suspension, which he is currently appealing. It’s a good bet that MLB will hand Matusz a similar punishment, and he’ll likely file an appeal as well.

Some Orioles fans might see the potential suspension as a blessing in disguise. In 14.1 innings pitched heading into Saturday, Matusz had a 3.77 earned run average and a 5.85 FIP.
