After Alex Rodriguez left the game yesterday with a tight groin muscle, everyone feared the worse because it was a muscle near the same area where he had hip surgery.

So, A-Rod went back to see Dr. Ahmad, the doctor that operated on his hip today, and he got good news : tendinitis in his hip flexor, not in the area he had surgery.

Tendinitis is not the best news, but it is a lot better than if this happened in the same area of the surgery which could have meant more surgery.

At this point he’s day-to-day and the Yankees training staff has cleared him for pinch hitting duty. However, I wouldn’t expect manager Joe Girardi to use him any time soon.

Instead, he could even sit out the entire weekend as the Yankees are playing the weak Houston Astros.

Ramiro Pena is in the lineup tonight at third base. He’ll probably share the third base duties with Kevin Russo through the weekend.

If A-Rod misses more time than just this weekend, I would expect Russo to get the bulk of the playing time.
